Pasture Raised is an important distinction. It means the animals are actually raised on pasture. This is contrasted with Free Range, which does not have pasture requirements and can mean as little as “access to the outdoors.”
Many Pasture Raised programs move the animals indoors during the winter if their region has snow or other severe weather. Because of the moderate climate in New Zealand, Australia, and Spain, all animals in those programs spend their entire lives outside.
